5 Social Trends Businesses Need to Watch

Social networking crosswordEvery once in a while another blogger posts something so profound that it gets repeated over and over.  About a month ago David Allison of Braun/Allison posted 5 Social Trends that bear watching and repeating.  I tweeted it once and it became the most re-tweeted article I sent out last month.

Every business owner and manager should keep a copy of this and refer to it often.  It’s that important for the future of your business.

Here are the 5 trends with a little added commentary on my part:

Smart Ways to Spend Your LeadGen Budget in 2010

marketing budgetIntroduction:

It’s clearly no secret that many businesses have struggled mightily over the past 1 – 2 years through one of the worst recessions we have seen in a very long time.  Now, we have the economic smart guys saying that the recession if over.  Wishful thinking?  Perhaps.

However, those with a business to run still have to develop a plan for 2010 – if you haven’t already done so.  To get your businesses to grow you will need more sales (altogether now – duh!?!), and to get more sales you will need more leads (double duh).  So, how do you spend your lead generation budget in 2010 to do that?  Over the next few posts we will offer some ideas.

Will Social Media Replace Email?

Happy Girl with a toyThat question seems to pop up like a defective toy that my kids used to play with – over and over the little bugger would keep popping up no matter what.

I really don’t understand why it has to be an either/or question.  If you really stop and give the issue some thought that exceeds a couple of nano seconds, then you realize that maybe both can be used effectively.  Which is exactly what was shown in a number of recent studies.

gold nuggetsAs some of you may have noticed, October was a very busy month for announcements in the realm of social media.  Of course, some are also still wondering how worthwhile is social media as a business tool?  That was a valid question, but not any longer.

In case you missed some of those announcements, and if you were busy with your business that is very possible, here is a brief summary.

101 Slices of Worthwhile Business Wisdom

Slices of BreadIt’s not often that one can find 50 well-known business bloggers and their collective wisdom in one place.  Usually it takes quite a bit of time and searching all over the web.  But, thanks to to Gregory Go (Wise Bread) and the Open Forum you can.

These aren’t full blog posts, but there are some very good snippets from these 50 bloggers.  There are also links to each of their blogs in case you want to read more.  [After staying for a few minutes to read some of mine first of course :-) ]

Is This Social Media Thingy Real?

Tactics Tools and TimeWith every twist and turn in technology there are those who think that every new thing is a passing fad.  Quite honestly, sometimes they are right.  But, then there are broader movements within the overall scheme; and, those are the ones that we ignore at our own peril.

With the recent release of Forrester Research‘s third annual Social Technographics Profile called “The Broad Reach of Social Technologies”, we can now safely say that this Social Media thingy just might be here to stay.  There will be various tools and companies that don’t end up commanding a large presence, and some will fail; but, the concept of doing business using some form of Social Media will be necessary to survive.
