Your experience with that CEO is not unique. They don't intend to waste time and they typically want relevant, succinct answers to their questions. I have served on senior management staffs for 2 SMBs and worked with 6 different CEOs, and most of them were very keenly aware of how much time they spend with anyone. His question - Why should people follow you? - is a good one; and similar to the one that we should always be trying to answer - So What? - whenever we're writing/presenting to anyone.
