Compelling Reasons For a Social Media Strategy

Social Media 150x150 Compelling Reasons For a Social Media StrategyIf you want to grow your business you must to use social media.  It’s as simple as that.

Just in case you need more proof I will share some recent stats from Econsultancy.  This is something they do every six months and it gives a good snapshot of where people are communicating and doing business.  Make no mistake, if you aren’t at least listening in on the conversations you are losing out on very valuable information.  Information regarding your industry, your competitors, and your potential customers is exchanged via social media every minute of every day.

Here is just some of the latest on the major social media players:

  • Facebook has now reached 400 million users, and 50% of them log into the site each day.  That’s 200 million users every 24 hours.

  • Twitter now has 15 million active users (they have many more accounts, but not all are active).  Just a few months ago they had 8 – 10 million active users.

  • LinkedIn has over 50 million members and continues to grow at the rate of 1 million new members each month.  The majority of members are with companies in B2B.

  • Last year the average Facebook user had 120 friends, the average is now up to 130 friends.

  • The average number of tweets on Twitter is over 27 million per day.

  • More than 700,000 local businesses have active Pages on Facebook.

  • More than 80,000 web sites have implemented Facebook Connect and more than 60 million Facebook users engage with it each month.

  • Lastly, more than 65 million Facebook members access the site through mobile-based devices.  That’s a 100% increase in six months.  UPDATE:  Facebook just announced (2/10/10) that they have exceeded 100 million.

As I’ve said before, you need to find out what social media platforms your customers and prospects are using.  Then sign up for an account and, at the very least, listen in to what is being said.  You will find invaluable information that will help your business.  If you’re still not sure what to do, or how to do it, get in touch and I’ll do what I can to help.

If you are currently making effective use of social media let me know what works for you.  I’ll do a follow up post on that and give you credit for your foresight and business acumen – and your smarts too.
